On 4/20/99, Motorcycle Deputy Paul Smoker was clocking people driving 15 MPH+ over the speed limit and was writing a speeding ticket at around 11:15 a.m. when he heard the call for a female down at Columbine High School. He responded to the scene and ended up firing at the suspect who engaged in a shootout with Deputy Neil Gardner at the West doors.
